Sara Fran
Hi! I’m Sara. Nice of you to come by!
I write standup, satire, sketch, fiction, as well as poetry and essay.
I’ve published humor in places like McSweeney’s, Slackjaw, and Points in Case, and was an Emerging Writer Fellow at The Susan J. Kamil / Center for Fiction Emerging Writer Fellowship (‘23).
As a writer and comedian, I explore the absurd, fucked-up ways and means that cultural, personal, and political realities collide. For that reason, I also love mythology and folklore — classic and contemporary, public and personal. (I want the fucked-up tea on Poseidon and I want it now.)
I also create and act in video sketches and perform standup IRL, sometimes with visual or audio elements. For fun, I play songs, draw cartoons, bike and hike around, and yeah, do improv. I find character work DELIGHTFUL.
I’ve trained as a comedy writer and a performer at UCB, Second City, and Brooklyn Comedy Collective, including intensives in improv, sketch, satire, clown, TV writing, and character.
I live and work in beautiful Brooklyn, New York with my #1 bud, Punky (he’s a cat).
By the way
I’m currently offering one-on-one virtual feedback and coaching sessions for people seeking to improve their writing or comedy work. I’m also open to writing, editing, and performing opportunities. Send me a request in the contact form below!

Work with me!
Think I’m a good fit for a writing, standup, or acting, or gig? Send a request! I also make a great host, but who’s asking (unless…you?)
I also offer writing feedback sessions, comedy coaching, and editorial reviews.
My approach to coaching and editing
I’m here to guide you clearly and meaningfully toward your point, your plot, or your punchline. I can help you fine-tune your language, uncover your style, and sharpen your voice.
My approach is flexible and tailored to you. Need a riffing partner? Great. Need to process your insecurities and locate the spark in your work? I’m listening! Just want a line editor? Cool. Unsure what you need? Let’s figure it out together!
My goal is to leave you feeling a strong sense of ownership and pride in your work.
I welcome pieces across comedy and literary genres and formats, including satire / humor pieces, standup or character bits, one-person shows, sketches, short stories, poems (my first love), and personal essays.
I can also help you with op-eds, research papers, or essays called things like, “Layers: The Psychosexual Currency of The Soviet Platitude.” Literary / arts criticism and sociopolitical theory are both in my wheelhouse.
I will NOT review your sponsored post on HERBALIFE or your doTERRA (TM) white paper.
Sessions are paid. For rates, send a project request!
